About the expedition
Discover the art of capturing unique moments of wildlife in one of the world's most inspiring settings: South Africa's nature reserves. This week-long photography course is an immersive experience that combines theoretical learning with practical guided safari outings, allowing you to refine your skills while exploring breathtaking landscapes and capturing Africa's majestic wildlife.
During the course, you will have access to theoretical modules taught by professional photographers, covering everything from technical fundamentals—such as camera settings, use of light, and composition—to advanced strategies for capturing dynamic images of animals in their habitat. At the same time, the practical safari outings will be an opportunity to apply this knowledge in real-life situations, with the support of experts who will help you maximize your shots.
In addition to photographic skills, the course offers an enriching experience of connecting with nature. Accompanied by qualified guides, you will have the chance to observe the iconic Big Five and a diversity of other species, learning about the ecosystem, animal behavior, and the importance of conservation.
Ideal for photographers of all levels, from beginners to advanced enthusiasts, this course combines adventure, learning, and creativity in a breathtaking setting. At the end, you will not only improve your skills, but also take home stunning images and unforgettable memories of one of the most captivating regions on the planet.
Itinerary
DAY I
Arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa.
An official Dinokeng Events driver will be waiting for you.
Dinokeng Game Reserve is an exclusive conservation reserve, where the concept that ecotourism could become a source of development for rural communities through sustainable employment was developed.
Dinokeng is the language of the baTswana and baPedi people, translated as “a place of rivers,” and the reserve is named after the many rivers that cross its path to join the Limpopo and Orange rivers.
At the end of the day, we will go on a safari to study some animals and prepare for the next few days of the wildlife photography course.
DAY II
Our days will begin early in the morning with our first safari to learn some basic rules and get to know our terrain and our animals. It will last about 3/4 hours. Then we will return to Tendeni Private Lodge for breakfast.
A light lunch will be provided at the lodge or at the activity site around 2:00–3:00 p.m.
In the early afternoon, we will depart for a surprise location for a moment of relaxation.
Around 8:00 p.m., we will enjoy our dinner, featuring delicious African specialties.
DAY III
We start our morning with a safari through the reserve just before sunrise.
We take some pictures of the sunrise and some animals in the best light of the day.
After finishing the safari, we return to our accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and then have time to rest until early afternoon.
We start our afternoon with the first theoretical module of our wildlife photography course.
A light lunch will be provided at the lodge or at the activity site around 2/3 p.m.
We end our day with a late afternoon safari.
Around 8 p.m., we enjoy our dinner, featuring delicious African specialties.
DAY IV
We start our morning with a safari through the reserve just before sunrise.
We take some pictures of the sunrise and some animals in the best light of the day.
After finishing the safari, we return to our accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and then have time to rest until early afternoon.
We start our afternoon with the second theoretical module of our wildlife photography course.
A light lunch will be provided at the lodge or at the activity site around 2/3 p.m.
We end our day with a late afternoon safari.
Around 8 p.m., we enjoy our dinner, featuring delicious African specialties.
DAY V
We start our morning with a safari through the reserve just before sunrise.
We take some pictures of the sunrise and some animals in the best light of the day.
After finishing the safari, we return to our accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and then have time to rest until early afternoon.
We start our afternoon with the third theoretical module of our wildlife photography course.
A light lunch will be provided at the lodge or at the activity site around 2/3 p.m.
We end our day with a late afternoon safari.
Around 8 p.m., we enjoy our dinner, featuring delicious African specialties.
DAY VI
We start our morning with a safari through the reserve just before sunrise.
We take some pictures of the sunrise and some animals in the best light of the day.
After finishing the safari, we will return to our accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and then have time to rest until early afternoon.
We will start our afternoon with the fourth theoretical module of our wildlife photography course, which is dedicated to editing (Lightroom).
We will end our day with another safari in the late afternoon.
DAY VII
We start our morning with a safari through the reserve just before sunrise.
We take some pictures of the sunrise and some animals in the best light of the day.
After finishing the safari, we return to our accommodation for a well-deserved breakfast and then have time to rest until early afternoon.
We start our afternoon with the fifth theoretical module of our wildlife photography course, which is dedicated to animal behavior, such as:
• Observation Skills;
• Animal Behavior;
• Approach;
• Ethical Behavior;
We end our day with another safari in the late afternoon.
DAY VIII
The day to return home has arrived.
It will be an early start so we can check out and get to Johannesburg to catch our flight to Portugal.
We take with us memories that enrich our lives.
This wild journey was much more than an adventure; it was an immersion in the raw beauty and essence of African wildlife.
Each safari was a promise fulfilled of natural wonders, and each sunset painted the sky with colors that defy description.
As we say goodbye, we take with us not only magnificent images, but also the feeling of having witnessed Africa in its fullness.
